The scan is SOOOOO POORLY done it is almost impossible to read. I thought I was getting a real book. This is a pamphlet with a shinny cover. There are only a few essays with huge almost unreadable footnotes that if removed would take up half as many pages. The Introduction starts on page 4, so 3 are missing, essays of elia. I am going to return the book and eat the postage.

What essays of elia waste! I am so disappointed! I purchased the book essays of elia I recently watched the move several times in which the Charles Lamb and book is a central character. I have just finished the book of essays of elia same name. Utterly Charming both I highly recommend both they play off each other.

Movie first, essays of elia, book fills in some major details. The original book, "Everybody's Lamb" is out of print and very pricey is you find one. Netflix has the movie. Amazon has the book of the same name. Elia is dated, probably charming in his time but in today's world he's no quite relevant. no surprise considering his writings amused people a years ago. One person found this helpful. I read this essays of elia book after reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.

Only one of the four long essays was good, the one about the roast pig. This is a public domain scan and it's basically unreadable. Boo to Amazon for offering it! Classic that was required for class. It was ok. A Classic. Shamefully I had not read Lamb before. This is a book you want to leave out and dip into frequently. I will be reading the rest of his writings. Lamb's writing is fine--descriptive, essays of elia, idiosyncratic, provokes thinking.

The copy I got was over-sized and the print was smeary, so it's hard to read. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. Translate all reviews to English.

Charles Lamb led a life of considerable hardship and grief - his sister, Mary, stabbed their mother to death and was subject to periods of mania throughout her life. His writings, however, in essays of elia variety of genres, are always kindly, thoughtful, imaginative and, in this case, extremely funny. The essay form was very popular throughout the 18th and 19th Centuries essays of elia became a literary genre in its own right.

Lamb's essays range over many different topics, essays of elia, from the serious to the comic - the one essays of elia must read is "A dissertation on Roast Pig". I challenge anyone not to laugh aloud!
