The scan is SOOOOO POORLY done it is almost impossible to read. I thought I was getting a real book. This is a pamphlet with a shinny cover. There are only a few essays with huge almost unreadable footnotes that if removed would take up half as many pages. The Introduction starts on page 4, so 3 are missing, essays of elia. I am going to return the book and eat the postage.

Only one of the four long essays was good, the one about the roast pig. This is a public domain scan and it's basically unreadable. Boo to Amazon for offering it! Classic that was required for class. It was ok. A Classic. Shamefully I had not read Lamb before. This is a book you want to leave out and dip into frequently. I will be reading the rest of his writings. Charles Lamb led a life of considerable hardship and grief - his sister, Mary, stabbed their mother to death and was subject to periods of mania throughout her life.
