More than five decades after civil resistance movements worldwide, communities local and global continue to be threatened by state-sanctioned violence. From movements in opposition to police brutality in Nigeria led by ENDSARS and in the United States organized by BlackLivesMatter, to the farmer protests in India and the pro-Navalny movement in Russia, people are joining in solidarity to rise up and demand a better world.

How can we create and participate in nonviolent social change in an increasingly peace essay contest — and virtual — world? Guidelines : The contest is open to full- and part-time students in high school, college, seminary, and graduate school students who are en-route to a degree.

International, ecumenical, and interfaith students are encouraged to participate. Limit one entry per person. Essays will not be returned to the participant. Essays must be — words and double spaced. Please include a word count at the end of the essay. All essays must be written in English. Pages should be numbered and the title of the essay should appear on every page.

Citations must be consistent but do not need to follow a specific form. Essays must be previously unpublished including websites and blogs. Judging will be done blindly, and your essay will be identified by the title on each numbered page, peace essay contest.
